St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a national yacht flagging system for ships and yachts. In accordance with the Shipping Act,
2004, a Commissioner for Maritime Affairs, is appointed by the cabinet to carry out
administrative duties in foreign ports and undertake the general superintendence of all matters
relating to merchant shipping and registration of vessels through offices in Kingston, Geneva,
and Monaco. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, member of the IMO, since 1980, is also a member of
the Baltic Exchange. This country ranks among the top 20 leading fleets of the world. The
registry is administered through the Registrar of Ships and its international network of registry offices.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines lies approximately 1,600 miles southeast of Miami. Saint Vincent, the largest island of
this 32 island archipelago has long been a seafarer’s haven. It is a parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy with Elizabeth II as Queen and
head of state. English is the official language although most locals speak Vincentian Creole.
Registration Office
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines yacht registry home office is located in
Kingston. Offices are also maintained in Geneva and Monaco.
Registration Requirements
Yachts of all sizes will qualify for the St. Vincent and Grenadines registry, with certain qualifications.
Vessels under construction may also be registered. Vessels must not be older than 18 years unless special permission is granted.
The St. Vincent and Grenadines yacht registry is open to any individual who is a citizen of St. Vincent domiciled in St. Vincent or, any body corporate,
partnership or other association of individuals registered in accordance with the laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and having their main office
in St. Vincent, or any body corporate, partnership or other association of individuals registered according to law in any foreign country, provided
that when the main office is situated outside St. Vincent, a registered agent in St. Vincent is appointed.
Recording Methods
St. Vincent and The Grenadines has provisions for recording mortgages against vessels which are enrolled in the national registry.
Mortgage Deeds must state the date and amount of mortgage, discharge amount and date of maturity,
be signed by the mortgagor and mortgagee, and legalized by a
notary public
