Registry Overview
The Netherlands offers a yacht registry system which provides a
formal Dutch flag nationality. It is issued by the Dutch Ministry of Transport and the Dutch
government in the name of its head of state, the King of the Netherlands. A yacht can be optionally registered
as an inland waterway vessel, seagoing vessel or fishing vessel.
The Netherlands, informally known as Holland, is a country located in
Western Europe. It is the largest of four constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The official
language is Dutch, which is spoken by the vast majority of the inhabitants.
Registration Office
The Netherlands yacht registry is headquartered in Rotterdam.
Registration Requirements
Yachts of all types will qualify for Netherlands registration, subject to certain qualifications.
The Netherlands yacht registry is open to all nationalities. Those
who live abroad must have a postal address in the Netherlands which cannot
be a post office box. When opting for inland shipping registration, owners must submit
proof that their vessel has a berth in the Netherlands.
If a vessel was registered abroad then proof of cancellation from the country where it was registered
must be provided. This is an original statement from a
competent authority showing that the vessel is no longer registered in that country.
Recording Methods
The Netherlands Land
Registry has provisions for recording vessel mortgages.
Registration Search
Transcripts of registry showing ownership, mortgages, and
vessel particulars for Dutch registered yachts are available from the Ship Registration
office, Land Registry office, or through a private registration service company.
