About The Registry
The Bahamas, known officially as the Commonwealth of The Bahamas,
is an independent island country located in the West Indies of the Atlantic. The official language is English.
Yacht registration in the Bahamas is administered by the Bahamas Maritime Authority(BMA) with it's principal office in Nassau.
Registration Offices
The Bahamas Maritime Authority primary office location is in
Nassau. It also supports a worldwide network of yacht registry offices. Visit the BMA website for contact
information on the respective offices.
Registration Requirements
Yachts 12 meters in length and above will qualify for the Bahamas yacht registry. Those older than 20 years are not
typically eligible for registration in the Bahamas.
There are no ownership requirements,
limitations or conditions of nationality, residence, or company incorporations for registering a yacht in the Bahamas.
Recording Provisions
The BMA has a user friendly procedure for the registration, transfer and discharge of mortgages. Mortgages are recorded in
the order of the date and time in which they are presented to the registrar. They attain priority according to the date filed rather than that
of the instrument.
Registration Search
The "Registry Anniversary Database" link shown in the resources module will provide a
cross reference between vessel; names and official numbers.
Information about obtaining a transcript of registry
or copy of the certificate can
be obtained by contacting the Bahamas Maritime Authority.
