New Mexico boat registration and title database with record search lookups.
Introduction
Boat registration and title records in New Mexico are maintained in a database administered by the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). Boat data is integrated within the same system as for vehicles. Access to the database is made available for boat owners and certain qualified parties. This summary will provide some insights on how to lookup and request boat registration, title or historical records in the State of New Mexico.
Online Access
New Mexico now provides online access for vehicle registration searches which is available to owners and qualified parties. However, this is a new system and it is yet unknown as to whether it includes boat information. An account must be first established in order to utilize the service. Online services are available to boat owners for registration status validations and renewals.
Telephone Access
The New Mexico MVD may confirm the presence of a boat hull identification number in the database system and verify a registration or title certificate in hand by telephone. However, it will not likely provide other detailed information. MVD contact information is available in the Referrals.
Boat Record Request Form
A generic records request form can be utilized by owners, authorized requesters and other qualified parties to obtain boat registration, title and historical information from the MVD. Contact information is available in the Referrals.
Historical Records
Historical and archived boat registration or title records are available from New Mexico with the records access information provided in this page. However, boat records are not maintained indefinitely.
Bulk Records
Boat registration records in New Mexico may be available as bulk downloads to certain qualified entities. Contact the MVD for more information.
Nationwide System
The State of New Mexico participates in the Vessel Identification System which is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard. This is a nationwide database wherein most states contribute boat registration data in real-time. Access is only available, however, to law enforcement agencies and other governmental institutions. Anyone concerned about a boat that may have been stolen, abandoned, involved in an incident or is being utilized for illicit activities in state jurisdictional areas should contact a local enforcement agency or boat registration office.
This information is subject to change and should be confirmed with the respective agency.
