Maine Boat Registration Search

Maine boat registration database with record search lookups.

Introduction

Boat registration records in Maine are administered by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (DIFW). Search lookups and access to boat registration records are made available to owners and the general public. The following information will provide some insights on how to go about obtaining boat title and registration data in the State of Maine.

Online Access

The Maine DIFW has a boat registration renewal portal that may provide access to their database records. However, this will require the town in which currently registered and a boat registration number or hull identification number.

Telephone Access

The Maine DIFW may confirm the presence of a hull identification number in their system or verify a registration certificate in hand by telephone. However, it may not provide detailed information by phone. DWF contact information is available in the Referrals.

Boat Record Request Form

As an alternative to online and telephone access, a requester may use the generic Boat Record Request Form . This can be submitted by regular mail.

Historical Records

Historical and archived boat registration records are available from the Maine DIFW in conjunction with the records access information provided in this page. Boat records are not maintained indefinitely in the database system, therefore, you will need to contact them in order to determine such limitations.

Bulk Records

Boat title and registration records in Maine may be available as bulk downloads to certain qualified entities. Contact the DIFW for more information.

Nationwide System

Maine subscribes to the Vessel Identification System which is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard. This is a nationwide database wherein most states contribute boat registration data in real-time. Access is only available, however, to law enforcement agencies and other governmental institutions. Anyone concerned about a boat that may have been stolen, abandoned, involved in an incident or is being utilized for illicit activities in state jurisdictional areas should contact a local enforcement agency or boat registration office.

This information is subject to change and should be confirmed with the respective agency.
