Kentucky boat registration and title database with record search lookups.
Introduction
Boat registration and title records in Kentucky are maintained in a database administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KTC). Searchable access to such data is made available for owners and certain qualified parties. This summary will provide some insights on how to obtain current and historical boat registration or title information in the State of Kentucky.
Online Access
Kentucky does not provide online access to its boat registration database for owners or the general public.
Telephone Access
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet may confirm the presence of a boat hull identification number in the database system and verify a registration or title certificate in hand by telephone. However, it will not likely provide other detailed information. KTC contact information is available in the Referrals.
Boat Record Request Form
Boat registration, title and historical data in Kentucky may be obtained by submitting the appropriate record request form. The KTC provides one for the general public and another for lien holders, towing companies and storage companies. The generic form is, however, only available to owners and certain qualified parties. A records release authorization may be required for those not otherwise entitled.
Historical Records
Historical and archived boat registration or title records are available from the Kentucky in conjunction with the records access information provided in this page. However, boat records are only maintained for five years in the database system.
Bulk Records
Boat registration records in Kentucky may be available as bulk downloads to certain qualified entities. Contact the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for more information.
Nationwide System
Kentucky participates in the Vessel Identification System which is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard. This is a nationwide database wherein most states contribute boat registration data in real-time. Access is only available, however, to law enforcement agencies and other governmental institutions. Anyone concerned about a boat that may have been stolen, abandoned, involved in an incident or is being utilized for illicit activities in state jurisdictional areas should contact a local enforcement agency or boat registration office.
This information is subject to change and should be confirmed with the respective agency.
