Simplified Vessel Measurement Form

Application for simplified vessel measurement form with instructions.

The application for simplified vessel measurement form is utilized for USCG documentation purposes in providing details about a vessels size, shape, configuration and construction. It also serves as an interactive guide in calculating the gross and net tonnage of a particular vessel. This is vital in determining whether a vessel qualifies for minimum size requirements..

Usage Context

As part of the documentation process, an owner must provide certain details about the vessel's size, shape, configuration, and construction. This can be accommodated in three different ways. A simplified measurement form, a builder's certification, and what is called a formal measurement. The formal option only applies to vessels longer than 78 feet and certain commercial applications. In cases where a vessel is used solely for recreational purposes, the simplified measurement form can be used when there is no equivalent data available from a builder's certification.

The measurement form includes an instruction sheet with in-depth explanations of all fields. Upon entering the last item, be sure to press the enter key of your computer's keyboard. The net and gross tonnage figures should then appear in the upper left hand corner of the form. If the vessel measures less than 5 net tons, it will not qualify for documentation.
